Wow…so I knew it was going to be hot but the humidity down here is incredible. I forget a few things in my packing so Mary Elizabeth (my fab Gamma Beta Sister) and I did a quick walk through the Garden District to a CVS and I picked up what I needed along with a tasty fruit pie that is made down here to have for breakfast.
Because of the humidity we did our touring by car today. First Mary Elizabeth picked up Lori Peters from the airport and dropped her at the hotel then we headed out to lunch. We decided to do PoBoys today since they are such a classic and man are they delish. "Liuzza's" had a New Orleans BBQ Shrimp Po Boy that had just the right flavors to make it fantastic.
After lunch we drove through the 9th ward and got a chance to see some of the houses that Brad Pitts non-profit build as well as the levee that broke during Katrina. Mary Elizabeth told about how the National Guard and other rescue teams marked each house that they visit with an "X". At the top they would put the date on the left is who did the inspection and at the bottom is the number of body's found.
We also saw some houses that were built for sailors on the river.
Our last stop of the day was at SnoWizzards to get Snow Balls- a new orleans treat of shaved ice with flavoring. The one that I got was Nector Cream which blended the flavor with ice cream before it was mixed with the ice. You can also get it topped with Condensed milk.
For dinner we stayed in and our fab host made us jambalaya for dinner...with alligator sausage and corn bread. It was super tasty!!!
